3. Storage Devices

Storage Devices are used to store data either in magnetic and optical format.

There are following storage devices:

1. Hard disk (HDD):

Hard disk (HDD) is the main storage device in the computer it stores opreating systems and another data & software. The storage capacity of the hard disk is very large ranging from some mb to several gigabyte.

The main manufacturing company of the hard disks are samsung and seagate.

Depending on the connection to the motherboard there are two types of Hard disk : 1. IDE HDD    2. SATA HDD

IDE HDD is connect to the motherboard through 40 way ribbon cable. You can connect two hard disk using one ribbon cable.

SATA HDD is the latest type of HDD which can be connected only to 915 and Dual core board which has SATA connector. It is costlier than the IDE HDD

 

2. Floppy Disk

Floppy disk is rarely used now a days. It can only store upto 1.4 mb of data. To use floppy disk you should have floppy drive. You can use floppy disk again and again until it is corrupted.

3. PEN Drive

Pen drive is becoming famous now a days because they are cheap and plug and play. Because of its small size you can carry it any where. And it can store large amount of data ranging from mb to gb and more. You connect pen drive to computer through usb ports. Window 98 cannot run pen drive until u have pen drive driver CD.

4. CDs

Compact Disk Drive is called CD. You can store upto 700 mb of data in one CD. There are two types of CDs one is rewritable and second is normal CD.

5. DVD

DVD is becoming more popular now a days due to its high storage capacity than the CD. The minimum amount of data which can be stored in dvd is 4 GB.
